Troubleshooting / Re: no database entries [RESOLVED]
« on: October 18, 2012, 08:12:36 AM »
I'm glad you find it!
However, there is something odd on the scenario. Something went wrong and the plugin was unable to warn you.
I'm going to review this area in the next iteration.

Thanks for you feedback!
Fernando

First idea check if the plugin created the table wp_statcomm (or the prefix you are currently using).
Some database restriction could apply in this scenario, even the plugin it's doing its best to check problems like these.

I apologize for the late answer, some alerts are not getting into my mail box.

There wouldn't be any problems. Adjust the tables to the type desired.
Sorry for the late answer. The mail alert went to the trash and I never knew it was posted.

Hi smokinjo,

The plugin has a subfolder named def where the GeoliteCity database is uncompressed. That folder needs to be writable.
This is also mentioned on the Help (see the Help->FAQ) but setting to 777 has some risks. You should adjust permissions according your needs.

See this link

I made a fix to be launched shortly.
I delayed a little because I'm introducing new features.

Hi RDawson-Goodey,
you have to make the proper changes on Apache to make it work.

Troubleshooting / Re: GA vs Statcomm
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:56:28 AM »
Hi RDawson-Goodey,

GA doesn't care about spiders and bots and even if you wanted to, there is not an easy way to count them.
Statcomm inspect all the traffic but it is also possible to ignore spiders and bots.
On the options Page, click 'Do not collect spider visits'.

Future versions of Statcomm will include integration with GA.

Best regards
Fernando

Troubleshooting / Re: Error activating Maxmind database
« on: August 29, 2012, 09:52:20 AM »
Hi pepsix,

It seems strange. I'm testing the plugin against 9 different sites and I was unable to reproduce your scenario.
I think the problem is related with the latest changes, but no changes were made affecting Maxmind functionality.

Well, there is one. I added an extra control when Apache lacks the Multibyte String Extension. On that scenario, GeoIplocation can't run, since it depends on that extension, and the plugin will dump an error message.
The 1.7.50 fix should prevent users when this extension is missing. Even though, this wouldn't affect Maxmind functionality.
There is a explanation on this issue on the following topic Spy Option

Thanks for your comment on that matter. I'm currently checking other reasons for this behavior, and I let you know shortly.
Any other info you can provide would be very useful. Thank you.

Announcements / Statcomm version 1.7.50
« on: August 26, 2012, 03:31:28 PM »

Version 1.7.5.0 introduces a few fixes, but internally we made some major changes toward the next releases, where we are currently building an Ajax console. Some news are:

  • From now on, I (Fernando) will take care the entire plugin. Sergei will be attending another starting projects, and we think there is still so much to improve in Statcomm that when we finish with them you won’t even recognize the original plugin.
  • The template system was extended, allowing javascript and css run independently for each module. Maybe this has not much sense to you, but it means we can add or remove modules dinamically on the interface, something which we'll badly need in future iterations.
  • Improved safe_ini mode evaluation. That should fix the button migration is disabled when a Statpress table is present.
  • Improved error control when Multibyte String Extension is not installed on Apache Server. This problem happens on some installations, displaying an error when a user activates maxmind database.  Please see this entry on the forum to understand what is going on.
  • Improved running Statcomm behind proxies. Code improvement thanks rogst (See this link )

Download the plugin from the download page or the Wordpress Repository

This is very odd, since the deactivate_plugins is a function that exists since WP 2.5
The only explanation is that your version is prior to WP 2.5 and the plugin tried to deactivate itself. Statcomm needs a Wordpress version 3.3 or up.

I would recommend to update your Wordpress version and after that, try to activate/reinstall the plugin.

Installation/Upgrading/Migration / Re: Spy Option
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:02:14 AM »
Hi RDawson-Goodey,

-Some classes on Statcomm are based on classes provided for Maxmind site. Among those, the geoipcity.php and geoip.php files which have the classes GeoIp_Ctrl  and GeoIpCity_Ctrl respectively.

Those classes are using the mb_internal_encoding function, which is defined in the multibyte string extension (mbstring).
This extension provides support to other functions as mb_substr although Wordpress already provides an alternative for this specific function.  See more of mbstring extension on  PHP documentation for multibyte string extension

Chances are the extension mbstring is missing on the Apache server (this extension is not installed by default). Another possibility is the server has PHP 4.0.5 or less and you are not using PHP 5 although this possibility seems to be remote.

We'll going to make changes to detect this situation, even though we recommend to enable multi byte string extension or ask to the administrator to enable it.

Hi RDawson-Goodey,

Thanks for your comments.

It seems that the plugin can retrieve the file from the server , but the file can't be saved.
Statcomm saves the file(s) on the [plugin-folder-installation]/def so it needs write permission there.
Please check the permissions.
